Southern Book Tour 2012

*Be sure to check out the SBT12 Giveaways!*

Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

imageA: In trying to answer this question, my first thought was The Host by Stephanie Meyer.  Y’all all know my hatred for the Twilight books.  But I could fan=girl all over The Host.  I love it!  It could be an epically awesome adventure, or simply an epic fail.  With a 50-50 spilt, why would you risk ruining something so great?  Well, the Beautiful Woman at My Side [Rebecca] told me that there is a movie in the works.  WHY!?!?!  This may be another book-to-movie that I skip (verdict is still out on whether or not I’ll pay theater pricing to see the nearly-unanimous-critiqued mediocrity that is The Hunger Games).

imageMy blog theme for April is the Southern Book Tour (I’m sure you’ve seen me promo-ing it often on Twitter!).  So, with that in mind, I decided to pick a Southern book as an answer, too.  I had to think hard, y’all.  I finally settled on The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.  The book had this air of creepiness and mystery that I’m just not sure would translate to the silver screen.  And, even though I’m not completely sold on whether or not this series lives up to the hype [my review], I think I would give a movie version a shot.  Maybe it would surprise me and be better than the book.

What are you nervous about making the book-to-movie leap?

  1. i've been 'afraid' to read The Host. I am a fan of Twilight story but not a fan of Stephanie Meyer's writing...

p.s. they are already playing previews to the HOST!

  3. I'm worried about The Host movie too. But you already know that. I don't even know if I want a sequel to the book.

  5. I am worried about Charles Martin's The Mountain Between Us. The book was so soul-gripping to me I think I will be not just disappointed, but actually mind-numbingly depressed if it doesn't elicit the same awe in me. I will see the movie, but I may need medication afterward if I'm not left with the same emotions the book wrapped me with!

  8. I loved The Host about 10,000x more than The Twilight books. But I'm really excited about a movie. But not really because of the movie...because my friends and I will re-read it together and we'll see the movie together.
